More than 10 years before the Massachusetts legislature expanded the law prohibiting the delivery or sale of alcohol to minors to include allowing a person under the age of 21 to possiss alcoholic beverages, Richard Campbell was arguing to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts to hold a homeowner liable for catastrophic injuries suffered by a woman whose vehical was struck by a car driven by an intoxicated high school student. The student had been consuming alcohol at a party held by a homeowner's daughter. Langemann v. Davis became one of the watershed cases that led to the development of a true social host law in Massachusetts.Following the amendment of the statute, Richard Campbell and his law firm Campbell Campbell Edwards & Conroy (http://www.campbell-trial-lawyers.com), created a multi-media program, Be A Parent, Not A Pal, to educate students, parents, teachers, and members of the community about the new Social Host Law and to illustrate the legal consequences of allowing those under the age of 21 to possess alcoholic beverages. Another program, "It's About You," is geared directly toward youth and has been presented at such institutions as Endicott College, Holy Cross and Northeastern University.
