Local governments in Contra Costa County collaborate to offer a Leadership Academy for emerging leaders. The Leadership Academy takes place annually from January through July for 33 to 35 participants representing over 18 public agencies. The program was first offered in 2015. The target audience is Division Managers, Assistant Department Heads, mid-managers, and other emerging leaders. The seven day-long sessions focus on the following:• The Essential Nature of the Leadership Task• Communication Skills and Values Clarification• Employee and Citizen Engagement• The Freedom to Think, The Courage to Act• Creative Budget Responses• Developing Your Talent (and Coaching Others)• Political Astuteness and Resiliency The Academy is sponsored by the Contra Costa County Public Managers Association.
