We are a group of citizens—working under a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation—to grow healthy food, without herbicides or pesticides, to feed low income families. The Waukegan Park District partners with us by generously providing land and water. We also promote the concept of urban farming and help to plant other community gardens.Our vegetables and fruit are grown in raised beds, and we are also building a hoop house to extend our growing season. Our crops are distributed through a local food bank that serves some 150 families per week. With over 40 raised beds, we can produce annually about 1 ton of fresh produce.Greentown Urban Farming is always eager for additional members or occasional volunteers to lend a hand.
