At the 1st quarter of 2016 the collection of the gene pool of melons includes 12000 samples of 157 kinds of vegetables from 100 countries. At the same time, the potato gene pool consists of 2100 samples of world collection from 40 countries.Selection and seed research at the Kazakh Research Institute of Potato and Vegetable is held on 25 types of crops: potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, tomato (open and protected ground), cabbage, sweet pepper, hot pepper, eggplant, cucumber (open and protected ground), pumpkin, zucchini, dining carrots, beetrootdill, radishes, green beans and vegetable salad, watermelon and cantaloupe.
