Why did I become an insurance agent? That's a question I ask myself now and again. Part of me says to help families like mine avoid life's pitfalls as we grow older. Another part of me says that it was to help my family. Why can't it be both?So why am I an independent agent? Another great question. Well, if I am going to protect my family, and therefore other families, I want to have as many options as possible available as no two families are the same. No cookie-cutter option fits all needs.On June 26th, 2013, my son was born. And after a day or two in the hospital, I can't recall just how long it was, I finally had a chance to go home and get a shower. When I got back, I found myself breaking down in tears. It finally hit me. I'm a dad. WOW! What a responsibility. One I love, with all its ups and downs. I would not change a thing. Well, there was one thing…I want to leave my children a legacy, a financial one. So, I went out and bought a term life policy to cover my new family's needs in the event I passed suddenly. And at the same time, I thought maybe I should spend a few bucks every month and give my son a leg up in life by the time he is my age. So, I bought a whole life policy for him. I have not regretted that decision. One I need to repeat for my daughter.Now I find myself in need of some longer term investing not only for my retirement, but also to cover me if I am disabled long term.
