Sax Noir is a teaching studio that provides development for saxophonists and clarinetists from beginners to professionals. Chuck Currie is a clarinetist and saxophonist who performs with the Vancouver Island Symphony, the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Sax Noir Sax Quartet, Pacific Blackwood, and the Vancouver Saxophone Ensemble. Chuck is a Backun, Selmer, Yanagisawa, Vandoren, and JodyJazz-Chedeville-Rousseau Mouthpiece artist performing on Backun Lumiere Clarinets, Selmer Privilege Bass Clarinets, Yanagisawa Silver Sonic Saxophones and Backun bells and barrels on all clarinet.  He has performed at Canadian Music Educator Association conventions, World Association of Bands and Ensembles conferences, North American Saxophone Alliance conferences and at International Clarinet Association Clarinetfests. A reviewer of the opening concert of the Vancouver 2007 Clarinetfest reported "he did an absolutely amazing job of interpreting the bass clarinet solos in Frank Ticheli's Blue Shades. Never have I heard a bass clarinet shape and bend notes like that…what amazing projection." He teaches at his own Sax Noir Studio, and conducts clinics and master classes throughout British Columbia.  Students have auditioned successfully for the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, the British Columbia Honour Orchestra, the UBC School of Music, the National Youth Band of Canada, and the International Honors Wind Symphony at Lincoln Center, New York. His students have been awarded scholarships by Doctor Eugene Rousseau at his Vancouver Community College Master Classes.Chuck's articles on equipment and pedagogy have been published by the BC Band Journal, Canadian Winds magazine, and Clarinet & Saxophone Magazine (the journal of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain.)
