Mike Statler was the first one to come on board who was such a tremendous help, support, and friend. Jeff Bowen brought the music, the emotions, and the gift of music to all of us. Jeff Miller at the time was the star quarterback and when I asked him, "does that mean you throw the ball or run with it?" - He laughed, he smiled and said: "Thomas, I would be proud to be a Sigma Chi". Kent Whittnauer, you taught me what baseball was all about. Mike Smitsen- you were a true wrestler with a true heart. John King- I always knew you would do well and make a difference in the law enforcement arena, congrats on being the FBI Chief in Michigan. Jamal- who would have ever thought my little brother would have joined a fraternity, ended up moving back home to the U.E., have three wives and a beautiful family. Ok, maybe only one wife. Thank you, Brother Joe, for bringing your roommate now boss into our Fraternity. Jimmy Cota, you rock my wonderful man; not only were you my brother but my host brother during Up With people, I admire you, love you and have such respect for you. I will never forget when the Greek council asked me why I wanted to start a fraternity and I said there had to be more than just what was on campus. They said it could not be done it would take years and I would be hated by every fraternity on campus, and I said so how do I begin. It was true it did take 2 years and yes it was tough but I have never forgotten that first meeting with Dick Hester and Dr. Rankin when they asked me why Sigma Chi and I said it's simple when I look at the White Cross it shows to me each man has his own path in life. The cross goes up and down, left to right, but when we come together in the middle, we are ONE. And so my brothers this is how it began. Little did I know then how true this message was about our Cross of Sigma Chi.
