The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre was established in March 2004 by singer and songwriter Hinewehi Mohi who named it after her daughter Hineraukatauri who has severe cerebral palsy. Hineraukatauri, and thousands of other New Zealanders, have found a way to express themselves through music therapy, at the centre named after her.Our mission, as New Zealand's only music therapy centre's, is to offer a quality, accessible music therapy service to all people, no matter their needs. We have centre's in Northland, Auckland, Hawke's Bay, and the Bay of Plenty. All of our therapists have Master's Degrees in Music Therapy, are registered through Music Therapy New Zealand and have had extensive training in music, psychology and human development. We work with over 1000 individuals every week, from one to 94 years old. Our clients have a range of needs, including Developmental Disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Down Syndrome, complex Medical Conditions, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Mental Health Diagnoses, Dementia and exposure to Family Violence, Neglect and Addiction. We provide music therapy at our centres and satellite locations, and partner with many outreach organisations, including schools, rest homes, palliative care services, kindergartens, prisons and others. Music therapy provides them with the chance to express themselves, develop independence, engage with their community, and develop meaningful relationships.
