Central American Fisheries (CAF) is a Nicaraguan Corporation owned by Nicaraguan and Foreign investors. The Company has operations all along the Nicaraguan Caribbean and in the northern Pacific Coast also the main seafood processing plant located in Corn Island in the Caribbean Sea of Nicaragua. The plant is a self-sustained unit, with its own power, water, and security certified terminal, it has a capacity to process and freeze 30,000 pounds of seafood per day, specializing in lobster, shrimp and fish.Main sources of supply for the plant are independent day fishermen. These spread around the Corn Islands as well as the Caribbean Cays. CAF also exploits a number of permits for industrial fishing vessels. The plant has implemented its HACCP program and has been certified by the Nicaraguan Authorities for export to the European Union and other markets. External, independent audits are performed yearly.Corn Island is located 48 miles to the East of the coastal city of Bluefields. The island is surrounded by Caribbean sea of great beauty; it has 4 square miles of surface and a small population . An asphalt airstrip provides the main way of communication for tourist and businessmen. The CAF plant is one of the main economic activities of the island and is located to the Southwest.Product is available almost all year round, and is sold in North American, European and Japanese markets under C-Island Prime brand or private brands. From Corn Island, the product is exported directly via Miami, Fl or other Caribbean ports. CAF packs product under private label for some very important importers and distributors.CAF also has also a number of joint ventures in shrimp farms located by the Pacific Ocean "Estero Real", close to the Gulf of Fonseca, producing p.vannamei. Exports made from the Pacific coast are shipped from the plant, directly to their final destination.
