The Innsbrook Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Today, the Institute is host to the region's largest Summer Music Festival and Academy. The Summer Music Festival and Academy is held over 9 days at the beautiful, 7,500-acre, 100-lake, Innsbrook Resort. What makes the Institute's Festival and Academy unique, is that it is the only Festival and Academy in the Midwest where the musicians and students work and study in the natural surroundings of the resort, thus creating more of a retreat-like atmosphere than the feel of doing "work".The festival concerts, held every evening and open to the public, will give the audience the rare opportunity to hear the musicians and academy students come together to perform at the Aspen Banquet Center inside the resort. The academy offers intensive course of study to young string, piano, and wind musicians (ages 11 to 25 years). The students come from many different parts of the globe to have the chance to learn under the direction of world-renowned faculty and musicians. Quite a few of the Institute's Academy alums have gone on to become well-established professional musicians, and today, are highly respected in the world of symphonic orchestras and chamber concerts. Established in 2001 by our Artistic Director, David Halen, who is the concertmaster for the Saint Louis Symphony and Aspen Music Festival Orchestra; along with Ed Boyce, the Innsbrook Resort Founder and Chairman, the intent behind creating the Innsbrook Institute was simple. When introduced, it became clear immediately that Mr. Boyce and Mr. Halen shared the same dream of starting a music festival in Missouri, inspired by the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, along with creating a music school for young musicians. Their shared passion, motivation, and drive, along with assistance from the St. Louis Symphony Outreach Program, formed the Innsbrook Institute.
