Teachers across America are feeling stressed,unsupported and unappreciated! Job satisfaction is at an alltime low, and enrollment numbers for new teachers haveshrunk by up to 35% in a decade. We are facing criticalteacher shortages, with burnout, demoralization, andattrition rife. Some states have called in the military toteach, others have relaxed certification requirements, someare even virtually zooming in teachers to classrooms. Overhalf of all American teachers are reportedly consideringleaving the profession within the next two years, thoughsome states report numbers as high as 66%. We did themath and realized that if even 10% of them actually leave itwill cripple our public education system as we know it.The number one predictor of a students success is theexperience and skill level of their teacher. Since teachershortages impact schools with traditionally underservedcommunities at a higher rate, it undoubtedly results in lessequitable access to future economic opportunity.We believe every child should have access to high qualityeducation. But the answer to teacher burnout anddemoralization is complex with many interdependentinfluencing factors. We have a unique opportunity toinvestigate the impact of implementing evidence-basedstrategies from different sectors (specifically corporate anddefense) in a variety of different ecologies, including wholeschools, partial schools, leadership across differentcampuses, and individual teachers across the country.We feel confident that through the development of self-careskills, connection to a supportive peer community, and acontinuous supply of inspiration, we can refuel theseeducators so that they feel valued as the guides of ourfuture thinkers!
