As the world population is aging, it is prone to develop neurodegenerative diseases with a tremendous impact on individuals and the health care system.Still, animals serve as preferred tools in disease research and drug discovery, although they fail to appropriately predict the outcome of drug tests in human trials. Concurrently, there is a high demand for alternatives to animal models for studying brain impairment and performing promising drug research. Our multidisciplinary team makes use of stem cell and fluidic technologies to create an advanced human-based platform. That allows the modeling of individual illness and screening of drugs more accurately with the capacity of reducing animal testing.
