Founded in 2009 Northern Chords uses the beautiful backdrop of North East England to stage a festival which brings emerging and established musicians from around the world together once a year for a unique week of musical encounters and concerts.At Northern Chords we believe that classical music can be enjoyed by anyone. By introducing internationally renowned artists in venues ranging from intimate churches to a major European concert hall, Northern Chords hopes to break down any perceived barriers to classical music. Audiences of all ages are overwhelmed year on year by the energy and passion of the performances and always return to be taken on another thrilling journey.In 2014 we will look at music written during one of the most important times in history. All the works in the festival are by composers who were alive in 1914, the beginning of the Great War, and an event that changed the world forever.
