Pedal People offers cycle rides and wind-in-hair wellbeing for elders and people living with disability or health challenges in Brighton and Hove. Uniquely we train carers and volunteers to pilot rides, enabling important connections with participants and access to seafront and green spaces throughout our city.A small independent Brighton charity, we provide two services year-round:1) Uplifting (and often only) outdoor activity to elders living in care. These are cycled by our team of 44 volunteer cycle pilots.2) All-Ages Accessible Rides from our Seafront Hub. For anyone living with disability or health challenges. With this service we train carers, friends, family to pilot these rides with participants. Variety of pedal/non-pedal/electric assist trikes available.Unique attributes:• Consistently 50% Women cycle pilot volunteers and Trustee Board *• Open 12 months a year. Ride slots back-to-back, enabling full use of cycle resources.• Seafront and city location enabling participation in /around own community• Participants enjoy anything between 6-20Km taking in parks, sea and even allotment adventuring.*Women hugely under-represented in cycling & cycle organisations. Women cycle half as often as men according to ‘Sustrans' & ‘Cycling UK' latest stats (at 09/22.) We find ‘see it to believe' women representation on our cycles, matched in our communications, consistently attracts more women to cycle.Beneficaries- Live in 40km Brighton radius- People in/living with care, who rarely or never go outside- People living with disability (70% over 50 yrs)- People experiencing health challenges- Carers, families, friends.
