What is POD?POD is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising funds to empower, support & educate those in need.The origins of POD go back several years to when our little group of friends started to collect spare change in pickle jars. Once the jars were full, the money was donated to charity.From the humble pickle jar collections, a common theme amongst us to give back to the community was developed. Through fundraising and other supportive activities, our group was inspired to do what we could to help others.A group trip to Cambodia in April 2014 inspired us to become more socially conscious tourists also. A visit to Siem Reap in particular, touched our hearts. We met some very caring, inspirational Cambodians such as Touch Darith of Smiles of Angkor School and the dynamic duo of Sitha Toeung & Sreymom Rath of Children's Improvement Organisation, not to mention fellow Aussie Janis Lindblom of Cambodian Cocoon (See all links below). Like many people who visit Siem Reap, a little piece of our hearts was left behind. We pledged at that time to not just visit and move on to our next holiday, but to actually be pro-active in providing assistance where we can. Through donations (not just cash, but also school supplies/books/clothing etc), and student sponsorship (for English language classes), you too can help make a difference; a difference to children, their families, their villages and their communities. We have high hopes for the future with international projects such as clean water initiatives (water-wells and toilets) and closer to home, hygiene packs for the homeless.Through fundraising and support from caring and generous people, we CAN make a difference, we CAN EMPOWER SUPPORT EDUCATE.
