The R-Track project aims at the design of a distributed multi-robot tracking system using wireless sensor networks, which has started on October 2009 for 2-years period.The project is funded by the National Plan for Sciences and Technology under the Computer Science Research Program (Artificial Intelligence Track). The research program is managed by the Unit of Sciences and Technology and COINS Research Group in the College of Computer and Information Sciences at Al-Imam Mohamed bin Saud Islamic University. The objective of the R-Track project is to design and intelligent robot tracking and monitoring system that takes profit from the advantages of WSNs to provide real-time tracking of multiple robots towards the achievement of a common cooperative task (i.e. intrusion detection, target tracking, etc.). The main characteristics of the envisaged system is to:Provide high level of localization accuracy, Ensure real-time guarantees such that the delay between the detection and tracking is bounded and small, Reduce the ratio of false alarms by using group-based detection techniques instead of individual detection, Rely on distributed processing paradigm in the wireless sensor network to assist the cooperative work of the robots. It envisages the development of an experimental prototype demonstrating the real deployment of R-Track system where multiple robots supported by a wireless sensor network cooperatively interact to track an intruder in a monitored region.
