The Piggy-bank Campaign is an initiative that was started by three students at The Copperbelt University in 2015. The Campaign is aimed at eradicating poverty through education of underprivileged children. The organization specifically aims at helping children in community schools that are less privileged by pooling resources to help make their educational experiences better. At the foundation of the Campaign was the realization by the three founding university students that they had managed to attain tertiary education because of the generosity of Zambian tax payers' money through the government's bursary. The campaign was established as a way of giving back to the country; and help create a tradition of volunteerism and civic duty among students. The Campaign recognizes youths, especially those in tertiary institutions, as potent agents of change that can help develop the country. More than 87 per cent of the Zambian population is below 35 years old (World Bank, 2015) and The Copperbelt University enrolls more than 10,000 youths while The University of Zambia enrolls over 35,000 youths to the university. The Campaign creates a platform where students in tertiary institutions are able to use their learned skills and abilities to help underprivileged children in community schools. OUR VISION A poverty free Zambia were underprivileged children enjoy the right to education and have access to proper learning infrastructure. National leaders look to community schools constructed by students as example of youth led sustainable development. MILESTONES • Constructed three classrooms at Ipusukilo Community School in Kitwe • Reached out to over 3500 underprivileged learners in Kitwe, Ndola and Lusaka. • Enrolled and successfully mentored over 1500 underprivileged children.• Sponsoring 300 underprivileged in our partner community schools.• Donated over 600 books to four community schools and clothes/food in orphanages.
